o Disney Launches Family-oriented
Mobile Phone Service
North Hollywood, Calif. - The Walt Disney Company on
Tuesday launched Disney Mobile, its family-oriented U.S. mobile
phone service that piggybacks on Sprint's nationwide network. The
service will offer a wide variety of both Disney and other
family-appropriate mobile content. It will also provide many
parental control features, including the ability to set monthly
allowances on children's minutes, text messages and mobile content
downloads; control both when children may use their phones and whom
they may call; prioritize family messages; and monitor their kids'
locations using GPS technology. "Families have clearly told us that
they have different needs than the average mobile phone user," said
George Grobar, senior vice president and general manager of Disney
Mobile. "We built a complete mobile experience that is specifically
designed to meet their needs and is uniquely Disney from end-to-end.
Individual calling plans range from $39 to $169 per month, while
family plans start at $59 and range up to $249 per month; handset
pricing will start at $59. In addition to purchasing service online
or via a toll-free number, the service will roll-out at retail with
eight shopping mall kiosks that are already selling Disney's Mobile
ESPN service.
