o Liquid Audio to Dissolve, Return $2.50 Per Share to Stockholders
Redwood City, Calif. -- Liquid Audio, the beleaguered provider of digital
music distribution technology, announced on Friday that its board of
directors has approved a plan to pursue dissolution of the company and
explore the sale of its assets. The company will also make a cash
distribution to its stockholders in the amount of $2.50 per share. Liquid
Audio said in a statement it will "continue to operate while the board
reviews any and all alternatives for maximizing stockholder value."
Several groups of dissident shareholders had lobbied for this outcome,
despite a proposed merger agreement with physical CD and DVD distributor
Alliance Entertainment, which eventually fell through. Liquid Audio
president, CEO and founder Gerry Kearby resigned from the company several
weeks ago.

o Russian Programmer Sklyarov Testifies Via Video in E-Book Copyright Case
San Jose, Calif. -- U.S. prosecutors rested their case on Thursday in the
trial against Russain software firm Elcomsoft, accused of criminal
violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act for developing software
that can crack the security on Adobe e-books. Although the prosecution did
not call Elcomsoft employee Dmitry Sklyarov to the witness stand, it did
screen an earlier recorded video deposition from him. Sklyarov, who was
arrested while traveling at a U.S. computer security convention for his
role in creating the software, said on the video through an interpreter
that he knew his program could be used to crack Adobe security and
distribute unauthorized copies of e-books. "After obtaining copies,
somebody who wishes to harm can spread these copies. That's a negative
effect of the use of that program," said Sklyarov, News.com reported.
Sklyarov also said that he developed the software in part to demonstrate
the security weaknesses inherent in Adobe's PDF format. The defense is
expected to call Sklyarov to the witness stand when it begins its case on
Monday.

o Pressplay Service, Gateway to Offer 2,000 Pre-Loaded Songs On New PCs
Los Angeles -- PC manufacturer Gateway announced on Friday that it has
partnered with Pressplay, a digital music subscription service joint
venture between Sony Music and Universal Music Group, to pre-load all new
Gateway consumer desktop PCs with the "Gateway Music Vault," featuring up
to 2,000 songs from Pressplay. Gateway customers buying a new PC or a new
hard drive can choose from a number of options that will unlock portions
of the pre-loaded songs, and along with them receive free trial
subscriptions to the Pressplay service in varying durations. The
pre-loaded songs will be marketed as a means of avoiding the time it would
take to download so much music. Gateway said it will promote the Music
Vault and Pressplay partnership in TV ads and in its retail stores.

o Honduran Congress Votes to Ban Violent Video Games
Tegucigalpa, Honduras -- The Honduran Congress has voted unanimously to
ban violent video games in the country, as part of the government's scheme
to battle a growing crime rate there, the Associated Press reported. Also
being banned are any toys that resemble a gun, knife or other weapon.
Among the games specifically targeted by the ban are "Mortal Kombat,"
"Resident Evil," "Turok," "House of the Dead," "Duke Nukem," "Shadowman,"
"Quake," "Instinct Killer," "Doom," "Legacy of Kain," "Street Fighter" and
"Perfect Dark." Honduran retailers will have until June 2003 to remove the
prohibited games and other products from their shelves.

(Anaheim, Calif.) Microsoft announced on Friday that Oregon-based cable TV
operators Uvision and Willamette Broadband will deploy the MicrosoftTV
Interactive Program Guide across their cable systems. Combined, the two
companies serve around 20,000 subscribers. The program guide, compatible
with Motorola DCT1000, DCT1200 and DCT2000 set-top boxes, will be rolled
out in the first quarter of 2003.

(Santa Monica, Calif.) Game developer Activision announced on Friday that
it will create versions of its "X-Men: Wolverine's Revenge" title for
Nintendo Game Boy Advance and the PC. The company is already working on
versions for PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, and all five titles will be
released simultaneously in the spring, concurrent with the release of the
sequel to the X-Men movie, "X2." The Game Boy Advance version is being
developed by New York-based Vicarious Visions; the PC version by Livesay
Technologies, and the PlayStation 2 version by U.K.-based Gene Pool and
its subsidiary Warthog. Gene Pool is also developing the Xbox and GameCube
versions of the game.

has teamed with Limelight Networks, a provider of rich media delivery
services, to offer what it claims to be the first MPEG-4-based Internet
radio broadcast. The stream will utilize Apple QuickTime Broadcaster,
QuickTime Streaming Server 4 and the QuickTime 6 MPEG-4 codec. "The
technology is powerful and will scale easily to support our growing
customer base of content providers like Radioio," said Limelight's David
